Shorty's BBQ is a barbecue restaurant on Southwest 40th Street in West Miami, one of several locations the business runs in South Florida. This is the West Miami branch.
The menu is built around barbecue combinations, and the sides are as fixed a part of it as the meat: every combo arrives with the house coleslaw, golden French fries and garlic bread, with cornbread available in place of the bread for a small surcharge. All white meat can be requested for an extra dollar, five wings or a sausage can be added to any meal, and there are family feasts sized for a table rather than a person. Catering is offered as well, which tells you something about the portions.
The restaurant is open every day from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, so lunch and dinner are both covered and there is no closing day to plan around. Ordering ahead is possible through the restaurant's own site.
Southwest 40th Street is Bird Road, one of the main east-west routes across Miami-Dade County, and this stretch is straightforward to reach by car with parking on site. That matters here: West Miami is not a neighbourhood most visitors walk through, and this is a place you drive to. Bird Road runs west from Coral Gables towards the Florida Turnpike, so the restaurant is a practical stop on the way in or out of the city rather than a detour.
