Rates checked in September 2026. Under its single-fee structure, Airbnb charges most hosts 15.5%; Airbnb says other hosts typically pay between 14% and 16%. Exceptions depend on country and account type. Booking.com sets the commission rate in each accommodation agreement, and visibility programmes may increase it. This worked example uses a possible range of 15% to 25%. If Booking.com facilitates payment, the applicable payment terms and transaction cost are contract-specific. Our 3.9% cost contribution is included in the displayed total and contributes towards Stripe payment fees and refunds. BookNoFees earns nothing from it. Nothing is added at checkout and nothing is deducted from the owner. Fee models can change, so please check each platform’s current terms. About United States

Staying in United States

The United States is the deepest vacation-rental market on earth, and it spreads across an entire continent's worth of scenery. You can trade skyline for surf in a single flight: Florida's warm gulf beaches and theme parks, California's Pacific coast and desert pools, Hawaii's volcanic islands, the forested cabins of the Great Smoky Mountains, Colorado's ski-in resorts, the wide barrier-island beaches of the Outer Banks, the red-rock deserts of Arizona and the energy of New York City. Whole-home rentals are the norm here — families take multi-bedroom beach houses, groups split mountain lodges with hot tubs, and snowbirds settle into desert condos for the winter. Rules differ sharply from state to state and city to city, so it pays to check local specifics before you travel.

Good to know

Vacation rentals in United States — FAQ

When is the best time to visit the United States for a holiday rental?

It depends entirely on the region. Florida, Arizona and Hawaii are warmest and busiest in winter, when travellers escape the cold further north. Colorado's ski towns peak from roughly December through March, then have a quieter, cheaper summer season for hiking. Beach destinations like the Outer Banks and much of California are busiest in summer. Spring and autumn (the 'shoulder' seasons) often bring the best mix of good weather and lower rental prices in many areas.

Do I need to know local short-term rental rules as a guest?

The property owner is responsible for holding the right licence, but rules vary a lot and are worth understanding. Cities such as New York have tight restrictions on short stays, parts of Hawaii and California limit where rentals can operate, and many mountain and beach towns require the host to hold a local permit. Booking a listing from a host who operates legally protects your trip. If you have any doubt, ask the host directly which registration or licence the property holds.

Does BookNoFees add any booking fees?

BookNoFees deducts no commission from the amount set by the host. The displayed total includes a 3.9% cost contribution for Stripe payment fees and refunds, and BookNoFees earns nothing from it. Nothing is added at checkout.

Are US holiday rentals suitable for families and larger groups?

Very much so — whole-home rentals are the American norm. Smoky Mountain cabins can sleep large family reunions, Outer Banks beach houses are built for multiple families sharing, and desert homes in Arizona often come with private pools. Full kitchens, multiple bedrooms and living space usually work out better value and more comfortable than several hotel rooms, especially for longer stays.

How do I get around during a US holiday rental trip?

Outside of a few dense cities, the United States is built around driving, so a rental car is usually essential for reaching a beach house, mountain cabin or desert home. New York City is the clear exception, with excellent public transport where a car is more hindrance than help. Islands like those in Hawaii and stretches such as the Florida Keys are also best explored by car. Factor parking and driving distances into where you choose to stay.

How do I book direct with a host on BookNoFees?

You can message the host before booking. For a booking request, Stripe first places a card hold for the full amount; the host has 48 hours to accept, and only then is the amount captured. Instant Book is charged immediately after Stripe confirms payment. Do not transfer the booking amount directly to the host. The displayed total already includes the 3.9% cost contribution for Stripe payment fees and refunds.
