When is the best time for a holiday rental in Germany?
It depends on the region: June to September suits the coasts, islands and lakes; autumn is ideal for the Moselle and Rhine wine areas; and winter brings skiing to the Bavarian Alps and the Sauerland. Spring and autumn are quieter and often better value.
Do I need a car, or is rail enough?
Germany's rail network reaches most regions and even runs directly onto Sylt, and city breaks need no car at all. For rural areas like the Black Forest, Sauerland hills or scattered Moselle villages, a car gives you far more flexibility.
Which German regions are best for families versus couples?
Families tend to prefer the shallow beaches and car-free islands of the North and Baltic Seas, plus the lakes of the Sauerland and Mecklenburg. Couples often choose the Moselle and Rhine vineyards, spa towns in the Black Forest, or Alpine retreats.
