Calle Consistorio, 16, Plaza de la Yerba, 11403 Jerez de la Frontera
La Cruz Blanca occupies a traditional Jerez house beside Plaza de la Yerba, with indoor dining rooms and a spacious terrace. Its Calle Consistorio address makes it a natural stop during a visit to the historic centre. The restaurant combines familiar Andalusian cooking with more contemporary tapas, allowing a meal to stay focused on regional flavours without requiring everyone at the table to order in the same way. The menu moves from small plates to fuller courses. Sherry vinegar appears with clams, Oloroso flavours beef meatballs, and local berza offers a hearty contrast to the fish and shellfish dishes. Garlic prawns, fried squid and seafood paella provide clear choices for guests drawn to the coast's cooking. A selection of cured cheeses and Iberian ham suits a shared opening to the meal. The surroundings and the menu give this restaurant two useful roles: a place for a relaxed series of tapas, or a longer lunch with individual main courses. Jerez wines are prominent in the cellar, offering an opportunity to explore pairings alongside ingredients and sauces that already reflect the region. Reservations are available through the restaurant's own website or telephone. Guests bringing a dog should request an outdoor high table and mention their pet when booking, following the restaurant's stated terrace policy. Confirm the current service times and any dietary requirements directly before visiting.

Calle San Francisco de Paula, 2, 11401 Jerez de la Frontera
La Carboná brings Jerez's wine culture directly to the table in a former bodega on Calle San Francisco de Paula. Its historic setting gives a meal here a clear sense of place, while the kitchen treats sherry as an ingredient as well as something to drink. Chef Javier Muñoz's approach connects local produce with contemporary preparations, making this a distinctive option for visitors who want their restaurant choice to be part of discovering Jerez. The published menu shows how that relationship works. Cod is paired with orange and Oloroso in an escabeche; an Iberian pork preparation incorporates Palo Cortado; and sea bass appears alongside chargrilled vegetables. These examples describe the restaurant's approach rather than a fixed promise for every visit, as the kitchen explicitly adjusts dishes and garnishes to the season. For a more guided meal, the La Albarizuela tasting menu follows a sequence of dishes with accompanying wines. The restaurant also publishes an à-la-carte selection and a separate midweek menu, so it is worth checking which format is available when booking. Diners choosing the paired menu should note that the restaurant serves it to the whole table. La Carboná is particularly relevant after exploring Jerez's bodegas or historic centre: the connection between the surrounding wine region and the cooking continues through the meal. Reserve directly to confirm the current menu, dietary requirements and service time.

Calle Divina Pastora, Conjunto Residencial Valdespino, bloque 6, 11403 Jerez de la Frontera
Albalá offers a contemporary way to explore Jerez's cooking near the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. Located in the Valdespino residential complex on Calle Divina Pastora, it is convenient for a meal away from the busiest historic-centre squares. The restaurant presents the culinary identity of Israel Ramos through a relaxed format that gives equal room to sharing plates and a more substantial lunch. Its menu is organised into clear sections for produce, small bites, shared dishes, spoon dishes, seafood, meat and desserts. Almadraba tuna, sherry vinegar and local wine references place the cooking in its Andalusian setting, while citrus ponzu, Thai-style seasoning and pibil preparations show an interest in flavours beyond the region. Sea-bass ceviche with avocado is one published example of that combination. There is considerable variety for a table that wants to share: the menu includes asparagus tempura, oxtail croquettes, grilled squid and a cheek-and-chicken cannelloni with Oloroso béchamel. Rice and noodle dishes provide another direction, while the dessert selection includes pumpkin cake with Palo Cortado and a homemade cream-and-egg flan. These examples are a useful guide to the kitchen, with current availability best checked when booking. Albalá works particularly well as a dining stop around a visit to the equestrian school or the northern edge of central Jerez. Reserve directly through the restaurant and discuss dietary requirements and the day's service before setting out.

Rua do Cerco 29, 9560-206 Água de Pau
Mon–Sun 12:00–15:00, 18:00–23:00
Dragoeiro is in Caloura, at the Quinta do Mirante above the coast of Água de Pau, and it cooks two things side by side: sushi and the food of the Azores. Next to sushi and hot sushi there are fusion plates, starters and salads, meat, seafood, pasta and risotto, açaí and desserts, with a wine list to match. The kitchen works to one rule - "waste has no reserved seat" - and tries to use every ingredient and every protein in full. It is open every day for lunch and dinner, and tables can be booked by phone or through TheFork.

C. Butiplaya, 5, 29649 Mijas
Tue–Thu 18:30–23:15; Fri–Sun 13:00–15:30, 18:30–23:15; Mon Closed
El Olivo de La Cala is a Mediterranean restaurant on Calle Butiplaya in La Cala de Mijas, the beach village on the coast south of the home, and it has been part of the village for more than fifteen years. The house puts a lot of weight on its rooms. There is an open air terrace under the Mediterranean sky, made for warm evenings and the sunset, and inside there are dining rooms gathered around a central fireplace, which makes it a place that works in winter as well as in summer. A wine cellar holds over a hundred Spanish references from the main regions, chosen by the house sommelier and renewed with the seasons. The kitchen describes its cooking as the authentic flavours of the region: seafood, Iberian meats, seasonal vegetables and desserts made in house, with fish and shellfish chosen from the market each day. The cold starters give a good idea of the style: a serrana salad, a rocket salad, a foie gras salad, avocado with prawns, a classic prawn cocktail, smoked salmon, melon with Iberian ham, and portions of Iberian ham and cured cheese to share. Further sections cover warm starters, fish, meat, grilled meats and a cheese board, with seafood paella and steaks among the dishes the house highlights. Anyone with an allergy is asked to say so when booking, and the kitchen adapts where it can. Groups from six people are welcome for birthdays, christenings, anniversaries and company dinners, with long tables inside or on the terrace and a menu proposed to suit the occasion. Tables can be booked online. Pets are not allowed, apart from assistance dogs.

C. Mirador del Golf, 1, 29649 Mijas
The Clubhouse is the social centre of La Cala Resort, the golf resort in the hills above La Cala de Mijas, a short drive west of the home. The resort calls it a meeting point for golfers, friends, families and guests, and it is open to all of them: there is no need to book, people simply walk in. Tables stand indoors and on a sunny terrace that looks straight across the Campo Asia course to the Andalusian hills behind it. The cooking is casual and fresh, with lighter choices alongside the heartier plates. The current menu names a La Cala salad of baby spinach, feta, roasted pumpkin, pecans and cranberries, a burrata salad with citrus and pistachio pesto, a pastrami sandwich of Irish Angus beef with Emmental and the house sauce, fettuccine marinera with scallops, prawns and mussels, teriyaki baked salmon with jasmine rice, and a grilled Irish Angus sirloin with béarnaise or chimichurri. For sharing there are patatas bravas, gambas al pil pil and a platter of Iberian charcuterie with Payoyo cheese, and the pizzas run from a plain margherita to a white pizza with truffle and portobello mushrooms. Every pasta can be made gluten free. Inside, large screens show live football, golf, rugby and tennis, and a golf simulator gives non players something to try on a rainy afternoon. The terrace, a large canopy and a garden pergola are also used for private celebrations. For holiday guests it is the easiest relaxed lunch nearby, with a view over the fairways that justifies the short drive.

Calle Tranco, 4, 29649 Mijas
Vista Lago is the restaurant of Hacienda el Sueño, an apartment resort in Las Lagunas de Mijas, and it welcomes outside visitors as well as residents; the house presents it as a place to spend a whole day or an evening between Marbella, Mijas and Fuengirola. The setting is the draw: mountain views, a terrace and a roof terrace, a large pool and the resort's own lagoon with a waterfall. The kitchen describes its menu as Mediterranean and grill, with Italian, Spanish and African influences and fresh local produce. The day starts early. Bread and pastries are baked every morning, and breakfast runs from a full English with eggs, sausages and hash browns to eggs Benedict, pancakes with maple syrup and filled rustic toasts. From midday there are wraps, burgers and a club sandwich, plus tapas such as homemade Iberian ham croquettes, filo wrapped prawns with cane honey and, a sign of the many Dutch guests, bitterballen and frikandel. The evening card covers king prawns pil pil, red tuna tataki, beef tartare, risottos, a seafood tagliatelle with prawns and clams, grilled squid, sea bass meunière, presa ibérica, duck magret, sticky spare ribs and a rib eye. Vegetarian and vegan plates are marked, including a vegan wrap and a vegetable wok, and a gluten free brown roll is available. Cocktails and smoothies come from a mixologist's list, and the wine list is international with some natural wines. Booking a table in advance is recommended. It suits a long lazy lunch by the water or a dinner with a view of the hills.

Calle Murillo s/n, 29649 Mijas
Tue 20:00–24:00; Wed–Sun 13:00–17:00, 20:00–24:00; Mon Closed
La Mejicana has been cooking in Las Lagunas since 1989, which makes it one of the long standing names of Mijas Costa. It sits on Calle Murillo beside the María Zambrano park, in the residential heart of Las Lagunas, and its motto, Para tu gusto, lo mejor, roughly 'for your taste, only the best', sums up how the owners describe their approach: they make everything themselves, starting with the buying of the produce, and cook every day from what they call original South American recipes. The menu mixes two worlds. On one side there are pizzas, from a margherita and a four cheese to a Mexican with spiced minced meat, a Colombian with chicken in hot sauce, a Moorish with spiced mince, onion and black olives, and a Nordic with salmon and capers. On the other side there are Tex Mex plates: hard or soft tacos, including tacos al pastor with pulled pork and pickled onion, nachos with guacamole and hot sauce, burritos served with rice and salad, chicken fajitas and quesadillas. Pasta, salads, burgers, finger food and desserts complete the list, and vegetable versions of most dishes are marked. What sets the house apart is its gluten free cooking: it runs a completely separate kitchen so that people with coeliac disease can choose from a wide menu, and there are lactose free options as well. Food can be eaten on the spot or collected to take away, which suits a relaxed evening back at the holiday home. A second branch operates in Alhaurín de la Torre; the Las Lagunas house is the original.

Soun is a café and restaurant on the Bertil Harding Highway, the coast road that runs along the Gambian Atlantic shore. It describes what it does as breakfast, brunch and beyond — Afro-fusion cooking with a nostalgic Gambian flair. The name carries the whole idea and the house explains it. Soun comes from the Wolof word souna, a variety of local millet, and it honours Joyce's grandmother, Kumba Soun Sanneh, who was born in the souna harvest season. A restaurant named after a grain and a grandmother is telling you where its cooking is rooted before you read a single dish. My Gambia Magazine described the room as a fusion of flavours with a welcoming atmosphere, warm lights, soft music and staff dressed to match the decor — every part of it, they wrote, reflecting Joyce's commitment. The kitchen keeps separate cards for breakfast, for lunch and dinner, and for drinks. It opens at half past seven in the morning on weekdays and half past eight at the weekend, running to eleven at night every day with no closing day. The coast road connects Bijilo, Kololi and Serrekunda, so this is a few minutes from the beach hotels and from the Bijilo Forest Park, where the red colobus monkeys come down to the path. Serrekunda is the largest town in the Gambia, considerably bigger than the capital, and the coastal strip below it is where almost everything a visitor uses sits. You will find Soun at Bertil Harding Highway 7, Serrekunda, Gambia.

The Fajara Garden Restaurant stands on 1st Street East in Fajara, on the Gambian coast. It keeps no website, so nothing here describes what comes out of the kitchen; the telephone number is the way to ask. The name says it is a garden restaurant, and in this climate that is a practical distinction rather than a decorative one. The Gambian coast runs hot and, for half the year, humid; eating under trees rather than under a roof is the difference between a comfortable evening and an endured one, which is why the better-known places here are gardens. The hours are long and start early: half past eight in the morning until midnight, six days a week, with Sunday beginning at eleven instead. There is no closing day and no break between services, so breakfast, a long lunch and a late dinner all happen at the same address. Fajara lies between Bakau and Kololi, a little inland of the beach, and is one of the older residential quarters of the coastal strip — quieter than the Senegambia road and within a short taxi ride of it. Bijilo, with the forest park and the beach hotels, is a few kilometres south. Getting between them is done by shared taxi or by the green tourist taxis, and both are cheap; walking the coast road after dark is not the local habit. You will find The Fajara Garden Restaurant on 1st Street East, Fajara, Gambia.

67 Kairaba Avenue, Serekunda
Alliance Café opened in February 2021 in the garden of the Alliance Française de Banjul, in the institute's building on Kairaba Avenue. It was set up as a café and restaurant for everyone, bringing art, culture and food together in one place. The kitchen leans French and Italian, and the garden hosts regular evenings: French cheese and wine tastings, and traditional kora music played in the calm of the courtyard. It opens in the morning and stays open into the evening, later towards the weekend.

Senegambia Strip, Kololi
Darboe's is a Gambian-owned bar and restaurant in the middle of the Senegambia Strip in Kololi. It opens for breakfast and stays busy late into the night, with a band playing on most evenings, sport on a big screen and free Wi-Fi. The kitchen serves Gambian and international food, and it is the Gambian dishes that bring people back: fish benachin, rice cooked in one pot with fish and vegetables in a spiced tomato stock; yassa, chicken or fish in a sharp onion and lemon sauce; and domoda, the peanut stew served with rice. There are tables outdoors.

Darboe's Restaurant is on the Senegambia Road in Kololi. It keeps no website, so nothing is written here about its cooking — only what can be checked, and the hours are the most telling part of that. It opens at five in the afternoon and closes at two the following morning, every day of the week. There is no lunch and no breakfast at all. A kitchen that does not open until the evening and runs until two is an evening and night house rather than a restaurant with a late licence, and anyone walking past at midday will find it closed. That fits the street. The Senegambia Road — known simply as the Strip — is the centre of the Gambian coastal tourist area, a run of restaurants, bars and hotels between Kololi and the beach, and it is busiest after dark. Darboe is one of the most common Gambian surnames, and a restaurant carrying it plainly is signalling a local house rather than a hotel dining room. Bijilo lies immediately south of Kololi, so this is a short taxi ride or a long walk from the beach hotels there. The Gambia is the smallest country on the African mainland — a strip of land either side of its river, nowhere much more than fifty kilometres across — and its entire tourist coast is this one stretch of shore, which is why so much of it is concentrated on a single road. You will find Darboe's Restaurant on Senegambia Road, Kololi, Gambia.

Brusubi Turntable, Bertil Harding Highway, Bijilo
Mon–Sun 9:00–24:00
La Parisienne is the Gambian bakery-café that has been baking in the French way since 1993, and this is its Bijilo branch at the Brusubi turntable, a few minutes from the Senegambia strip and the Bijilo beach hotels. The counter holds croissants, pains au chocolat, tarts and celebration cakes; the kitchen behind it serves breakfast, sandwiches, shawarma, pizzas and a menu of everyday meals through the day, with proper coffee and fresh juices. The room is fully air-conditioned, which on a hot afternoon is half the point, and there are tables outside for the cooler hours. It opens in the morning and stays open late, so it works as much for a first coffee as for a late dessert after a beach day.

Puerto Deportivo, s/n, planta 1ª, 15960 Ribeira
Restaurante Náutico Deportivo de Ribeira combines a seafood meal with a direct view of the marina and the Ría de Arousa. The restaurant occupies the first floor at the sporting harbour, with a dining room oriented towards the water. Its team has been serving here since 1995, and the nearby fish market remains central to the way it describes its cooking. Daily market visits shape a menu based on fresh fish and shellfish prepared in a traditional style. Grilled cod, local fish and a mixed seafood grill give several starting points, while the restaurant also highlights goose barnacles, prawns and other seasonal shellfish. Ask what is available on the day: the appeal of this kind of kitchen lies partly in choosing from the current catch. Rice dishes receive particular attention. Lobster rice is a house speciality, with live lobsters from the Ría de Arousa kept in the restaurant's tank. Another preparation brings together local brown crab and prawns. For diners who prefer meat, the specialities include beef rib steak, entrecôte and tenderloin. Homemade desserts provide a gentler finish, with cheesecake, lemon mousse and red-fruit panna cotta among the published choices. There is also a cafeteria for breakfast or an aperitif, so a visit need not always become a full seafood lunch. Takeaway meals and group celebrations can be arranged directly. Phone ahead for current service times and discuss any particular shellfish or rice dish when reserving. The first-floor harbour address is useful to note when finding the entrance.

Paseo das Carolinas, 34 Bajo, 15960 Ribeira
Restaurante Tío Pepe combines a Galician grill and seafood restaurant with a substantial handmade-pizza menu in Ribeira. The business began in Aguiño in the 1980s, building its name around roast suckling pig and grilled meats before developing the hot-stone beef that remains a house speciality. Today its address is Paseo das Carolinas, with dining spaces for both everyday meals and small celebrations. Pizza is a prominent part of the choice. A margherita combines tomato, mozzarella and oregano, while other versions use Serrano ham, tuna, four cheeses or vegetables. Some bring local ingredients into the format, including octopus with paprika and olive oil. Several sizes are offered, making pizza a practical option for a group or a meal taken back to the accommodation. For a more traditional table, the menu lists grilled prawns, garlic prawns, razor clams, scallops and clams in marinera sauce. Seasonal mussels and cockles sit beside fish such as turbot and sea bass. Meat choices include Galician beef cuts, churrasco and hot-stone beef for at least two people. The restaurant asks diners to order mixed meat grills in advance. Takeaway and delivery are available, with the team able to clarify the delivery area when ordering. The premises include an enclosed terrace, a more private dining space and adapted toilets with baby-changing facilities. Vegan, allergy-related and gluten-free requests require advance notice. Booking arrangements change in summer, so contact the restaurant directly for the current table policy, opening times and any dish that needs to be ordered ahead.

Avenida da Coruña, 149, 15960 Ribeira
Casa Fontao is a long-established family restaurant on Avenida da Coruña in Ribeira, close to Coroso beach. Founded in 1963, it now continues under a newer generation of the family after a renovation. The cooking keeps a traditional Galician direction, with seasonal fish, meat dishes and homemade desserts, making it a useful stop when a coastal outing calls for a complete meal. The menu has plenty of local character. Starters include octopus á feira, clams, razor clams and croquettes combining turnip greens with goat's cheese. Fish choices include Galician-style cod, roasted cod loin, sea bass and skate. Meat dishes range from beef entrecôte to pork cheeks cooked with Ribera del Duero wine and pork tenderloin with San Simón cheese. Rice is another reason to come with time to spare. The restaurant specifies a minimum of two diners and a preparation time of around 45 minutes, with seafood, vegetables and meat among the alternatives. There is a separate vegetarian menu built around vegetables, chickpeas and turnip greens, plus a children's menu. Casa Fontao also advertises gluten-free dishes and invites diners to discuss their requirements directly. A homemade dessert might mean rice pudding, cheesecake or a chocolate-and-walnut brownie. Groups can arrange a meal with the restaurant, and some menu formats are available to take away. The location has nearby parking, and the restaurant says animals are welcome. When booking, mention dietary needs, pets or a rice order so the team can explain the current choices and practical arrangements.

Outeiro, 7, Artes, 15968 Ribeira
Asador O Matadero is a grill restaurant in Artes, within the municipality of Ribeira. Its cooking puts meat and fish over the coals, supported by vegetables and other ingredients bought from nearby markets. The restaurant has operated for more than three decades and has renewed its dining spaces while keeping traditional cooking at the centre of the offer. Beef is a particular focus. The menu distinguishes between cuts and breeds rather than treating every steak as the same choice: entrecôte, tenderloin and picanha sit alongside larger bone-in cuts and a hot-stone tasting of several meats. Availability changes, so this is a place to ask the team which cuts are being served and how a larger piece should be shared. There are other ways to explore the grill. Cod is served with confit onion and sliced potatoes, while small local cuttlefish come from the hot plate with garlic oil. Ibérico pork, a beef burger in artisan bread and a brioche filled with slowly cooked beef rib broaden the menu. Seafood starters include options such as squid, razor clams and scallops, keeping the connection with Ribeira's coast alongside the meat specialities. Desserts include baked cheesecake, a warm white-chocolate preparation and a mango sorbet with Albariño. The restaurant also offers a weekday set menu and can arrange tailored menus for groups. Contact it directly to discuss the day's cuts, larger meat orders or a celebration. That conversation is particularly useful here, because the choice of cut, weight and preparation shapes the meal as much as the choice of dish.

Rúa Castelao, 7, 15949 A Pobra do Caramiñal
Sisal by Chicolino is a restaurant by the quay in A Pobra do Caramiñal, on the Ría de Arousa. Its approach starts with local products from the Barbanza area, then uses a menu that changes as new dishes and wines are introduced. The waterfront town gives a meal here a different setting from central Ribeira while remaining a nearby option along the same coast. Seafood is prominent, with razor clams, pan-cooked clams and scallops served with chive oil. Fish dishes include cod with lobster hollandaise and roasted peppers, and grilled hake with saffron pil-pil. Grilled octopus appears with potato parmentier, while another preparation turns it into fideuà with aioli. These choices show a kitchen that keeps regional products visible while varying the sauces and accompaniments. Rice can provide the centre of the meal: lobster rice requires an advance order for at least two people, and black cuttlefish rice is served with green aioli and piparra peppers. Mushroom-and-truffle risotto, chickpea hummus and grilled vegetables broaden the selection. Meat choices include Galician beef burgers, grilled entrecôte and beef tenderloin with spinach and raisins. For dessert, the current card includes baked cheesecake, a pastry-and-meringue millefeuille and filo rolls filled with almond cream. There is also a children's menu. The restaurant particularly recommends reserving during weekends and the summer period; contact it directly for a table and mention any lobster-rice order in advance. Checking the latest menu before visiting is useful here because regular changes are part of Sisal's approach.
