Minsterley
Station Road, Minsterley, SY5 0BA
Monday 14:00-20:00; Tuesday to Thursday 12:00-22:30; Friday 12:00-23:00; Saturday 12:00-23:30; Sunday 12:00-20:00; food Tuesday to Saturday 14:00-20:00, Sunday 12:00-16:00
The Crown & Sceptre is Minsterley's village pub, family-run, with one big room that serves as lounge and bar, a separate dining room and two open fires that earn their keep in winter. Part of the old wattle-and-daub frame is left visible behind perspex, a reminder of how long the building has been here. The food is homemade pub cooking - fish and chips, gammon, pies - with a Sunday lunch that fills the dining room, so it is worth booking. One changing real ale in summer and two in winter, often from Wye Valley. There is a lawn and patio at the back, a bowling green, live music once a month, and dogs and children are welcome, children until 8 pm on Friday and Saturday.
Saint-Malo
7 Esplanade Commandant Yves Menguy, 35400 Saint-Malo
Daily 11:45-14:30 and 18:45-21:30; continuous service at the weekend
The Crêperie Solid'Or is named after the Solidor tower that stands a few steps away at the mouth of the Rance, and it does the one thing a Breton crêperie should do well. The galettes are made from organic buckwheat flour, the classic complète with ham, egg and cheese alongside fillings with andouille, scallops or goat's cheese and honey, and the sweet crêpes come with salted-butter caramel made in house. Cider is served in bowls, as it should be. At the weekend the kitchen stays open through the afternoon, which suits a late return from the beach at Bas-Sablons. It fills up quickly in summer; the terrace on the esplanade is the place to wait.

DOMU is a ramen bar and Japanese kitchen inside East End Market, in the Audubon Park Garden District of Orlando, Florida. The first DOMU opened on this spot in November 2016. The East End Market location has carried a MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand award every year from 2022 through 2026, and in 2025 the kitchen was named a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: South. It also features in season 7 of the Netflix series Somebody Feed Phil. Dinner is served seven days a week: Sunday to Thursday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and on Friday and Saturday until 11:00 pm. Brunch runs on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. Happy hour is daily from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, and on Tuesdays it runs all night. One thing worth planning around: DOMU takes no reservations. Seating is walk-in only, first come, first served, which the restaurant describes as equal-opportunity dining, so arriving early on a Friday or Saturday evening is the safer bet. A gratuity of 20 percent is added automatically for parties of six or more. The restaurant closes on July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. You will find it at 3201 Corrine Drive, Suite 100, Orlando, FL 32803, inside East End Market, a food hall and market building a short drive north-east of downtown Orlando. Two further DOMU kitchens operate in Florida: one at Dr. Phillips on Restaurant Row in Orlando, and one at St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville.

Kololi
Senegambia Strip, Kololi
Mon–Sun 11:00–22:00
Darboe's is a Gambian-owned bar and restaurant in the middle of the Senegambia Strip in Kololi. It opens for breakfast and stays busy late into the night, with a band playing on most evenings, sport on a big screen and free Wi-Fi. The kitchen serves Gambian and international food, and it is the Gambian dishes that bring people back: fish benachin, rice cooked in one pot with fish and vegetables in a spiced tomato stock; yassa, chicken or fish in a sharp onion and lemon sauce; and domoda, the peanut stew served with rice. There are tables outdoors.

Darboe's Restaurant is on the Senegambia Road in Kololi. It keeps no website, so nothing is written here about its cooking — only what can be checked, and the hours are the most telling part of that. It opens at five in the afternoon and closes at two the following morning, every day of the week. There is no lunch and no breakfast at all. A kitchen that does not open until the evening and runs until two is an evening and night house rather than a restaurant with a late licence, and anyone walking past at midday will find it closed. That fits the street. The Senegambia Road — known simply as the Strip — is the centre of the Gambian coastal tourist area, a run of restaurants, bars and hotels between Kololi and the beach, and it is busiest after dark. Darboe is one of the most common Gambian surnames, and a restaurant carrying it plainly is signalling a local house rather than a hotel dining room. Bijilo lies immediately south of Kololi, so this is a short taxi ride or a long walk from the beach hotels there. The Gambia is the smallest country on the African mainland — a strip of land either side of its river, nowhere much more than fifty kilometres across — and its entire tourist coast is this one stretch of shore, which is why so much of it is concentrated on a single road. You will find Darboe's Restaurant on Senegambia Road, Kololi, Gambia.

Vlissingen
Nieuwendijk 13, 4381 BV Vlissingen
Tuesday to Thursday 10:00-17:30; Friday 10:00-21:30; Saturday and Sunday 12:00-21:30; closed Monday
De Gecroonde Liefde is on the Nieuwendijk in the old harbour quarter of Vlissingen, a few steps from the boulevard, and it has been run by the same two owners, Ronny Kers and Raymond de Jonge, since 2002. The name is old Dutch for "crowned love", taken from the house. By day it is a place for coffee and lunch - sandwiches, soups, a good steak tartare - and from Friday evening and at the weekend a restaurant with a French-international menu, fish from the Oosterschelde and meat from the region. The room is warm and unfussy, with a bar for a glass of wine, a gin and tonic or a cocktail before or instead of dinner. From Oost-Souburg it is a ten-minute drive or a bike ride along the canal.

De Herberg stands on the Pottenmarkt in the middle of Middelburg and describes itself as your living room in the heart of the town — informal, open to everyone, and open from ten in the morning until midnight, seven days a week. The house line is "just like home, but with better food and drinks", which is at least honest about what it is aiming at. The single long opening covers everything in one room: a coffee with cake in the morning, a full lunch, and in the evening brasserie dishes from the barbecue. The menu deliberately sets classics beside things that are not — North Sea bouillabaisse next to Korean sticky ribs, house-made falafel and a proper set of vegan dishes rather than one token plate. There is a terrace, and a list of special beers to sit outside with, which on the Pottenmarkt means watching one of the busiest squares in Zeeland go past. Because it never closes between services, this is the practical answer to the awkward hours — a late lunch at three, or something to eat at ten at night, both of which are hard to find in a Dutch provincial town. Middelburg is the capital of Zeeland, five kilometres from Oost-Souburg — close enough to cycle, and served by a direct train that takes four minutes. You will find De Herberg at Pottenmarkt 2, 4331 LM Middelburg.

De Pannekoekenbakker in Oostkapelle is a pancake house on the Domburgseweg, on the island of Walcheren in Zeeland. The Dutch pannenkoek is a meal rather than a breakfast dish — a plate-sized pancake served either sweet or savoury — and this is a house that does nothing else, which is worth knowing before you arrive expecting a menu. The restaurant sets itself up as the stop after a day outside: a walk along the sea, a bicycle ride through the dunes, an afternoon out. That is a fair description of Walcheren, where the coast, the woods and the villages sit within a few kilometres of one another, and it is why the kitchen runs straight through the day rather than in two sittings. There is a children's club, so this is a room built for families rather than one that tolerates them, and gift vouchers and arranged packages are sold through the restaurant's own site. The house recommends booking, which on a wet Sunday in the holiday season is not a formality. It is open seven days a week, from half past eleven in the morning until half past eight in the evening — unusually long for the Dutch coast, where many kitchens close between lunch and dinner. Oostkapelle lies on the north coast of Walcheren, about twenty minutes by car from Middelburg and Oost-Souburg, and rather less by bicycle along the dunes. You will find De Pannekoekenbakker at Domburgseweg 75, 4356 BK Oostkapelle.

Do-Do Café stands on the Šetalište Pet Danica in Herceg Novi. That address is the whole point of the place, so it is worth explaining: the Šetalište Pet Danica is the seafront promenade, a paved walk that runs for several kilometres along the water at the mouth of the Bay of Kotor, with the sea on one side and the town climbing the hill on the other. Almost everything in Herceg Novi that faces the water faces it from here. The hours describe a café rather than a restaurant, and a long day: seven in the morning until one the following night, every day of the week without exception. Eighteen hours is the working pattern of a promenade café on this coast — the first coffee before work, the afternoon in the shade, and the evening walk that half the town takes when the heat goes. We hold no website for it, so nothing is written here about what it serves. The telephone is the way to ask. Herceg Novi sits at the entrance to the Boka Kotorska, about half an hour by car from Morinj along the E65 and rather less from the Croatian border. It is the sunniest town on the Montenegrin coast and the one with the most stairs: the old quarter climbs steeply from the water, so the promenade is where people actually walk, and a café on it is on the route rather than off it. You will find Do-Do Café at Šetalište Pet Danica 36, 85340 Herceg Novi.

Água de Pau
Rua do Cerco 29, 9560-206 Água de Pau
Daily 12:00-15:00 and 18:00-23:00
Dragoeiro is in Caloura, at the Quinta do Mirante above the coast of Água de Pau, and it cooks two things side by side: sushi and the food of the Azores. Next to sushi and hot sushi there are fusion plates, starters and salads, meat, seafood, pasta and risotto, açaí and desserts, with a wine list to match. The kitchen works to one rule - "waste has no reserved seat" - and tries to use every ingredient and every protein in full. It is open every day for lunch and dinner, and tables can be booked by phone or through TheFork.
Orlando · Cafe · Vegetarian · Vegan
444 North Bumby Avenue, Orlando, FL 32803
Mo-Fr 07:00-20:00; Sa-Su 08:00-20:00
Drunken Monkey is a neighbourhood coffee house in the Milk District of Orlando, Florida, a short drive east of downtown. The shop describes itself as Orlando's local coffee shop, and the building is hard to miss: a small purple house on North Bumby Avenue that has become one of the district's landmarks. The coffee is roasted in house. Alongside it the kitchen bakes its own goods and cooks a menu that deliberately covers vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes rather than treating the first two as an afterthought, which is unusual enough in central Florida to be worth saying. Local artists hang work on the walls, and the art changes. Opening hours are long and simple: Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. That covers breakfast, a working morning, lunch and an early dinner, and there is seating outdoors. The Milk District takes its name from the dairy at its centre and sits between downtown Orlando and the Audubon Park area. It is a walkable pocket of small independent businesses rather than a strip of chains, which makes it a reasonable base for a morning if you are staying in the east of the city. Orders can be placed ahead through the shop's own site if you would rather collect than wait, and the telephone is answered during opening hours. You will find Drunken Monkey at 444 North Bumby Avenue, Orlando, FL 32803.

El Bar de Marko stands on Calle Risco Blanco in Costa Calma, and by review count it is the best-known place to eat in the town. It keeps no website, so nothing here describes the kitchen — we can point at no source for it, and a guess would be worse than silence. What can be said is the shape of its week, and it is a simple one: half past twelve to ten at night, every day, with no closing day and no break between lunch and dinner. On a resort coast where a good many kitchens shut for the afternoon and take a day off in the week, a house that never does either is the reliable option — the answer when it is four in the afternoon, or when it is Monday. Calle Risco Blanco is named after the white cliff, which is what risco blanco means, and it runs back from the beach road into the town rather than along the front. Costa Calma lies at the neck of the Jandía peninsula in southern Fuerteventura, about an hour from the airport at Puerto del Rosario and twenty minutes from Morro Jable. The telephone is the way to ask what is on and to book. You will find El Bar de Marko on Calle Risco Blanco, 35627 Costa Calma.
Playa del Inglés
Avenida Sargentos Provisionales 9, 35100 Playa del Inglés
Daily 11:00-01:30
El Chuletón is a grill on Avenida Sargentos Provisionales in Playa del Inglés, and its name says what matters most: a chuletón is a thick, bone-in rib steak cut for the grill. Meat comes first on the menu, with fish, pizza and pasta for anyone at the table who wants something else. The kitchen stays open for a long day - from late morning until well after midnight - which makes it an easy choice after an afternoon on the beach or before a night out in Playa del Inglés.
