Tangana is a beach restaurant at Valdevaqueros, within a small complex of bungalows, gardens and a clothing boutique. The setting belongs to the stretch of Tarifa coast associated with windsurfing and kitesurfing: a place to settle down for food after the beach, with green outdoor space close to the sand. Access is from the N340 near Camping Valdevaqueros. Its menu moves comfortably between substantial beach food and lighter dishes. The Retinto beef burger comes with Emmental, bacon and onion, while a chicken version uses cheddar. Tuna tartare with avocado, an Almadraba tuna poke bowl and a salmon bowl with watermelon, edamame and wakame give seafood a prominent place. A salad combines tuna tataki with rice noodles, mango and peanuts. Other choices travel farther afield, including chicken in Thai yellow curry with jasmine rice, lasagne and pasta filled with pear and cheese. Breakfast has its own selection, served until noon: toast and molletes, yoghurt with fruit and granola, eggs, crêpes and an açaí bowl. This makes Tangana useful for different moments of the day, while the available menu should guide the choice of visiting time. Desserts include lemon cake, carrot cake, blueberry cheesecake and apple crumble, alongside coffee. The food offering is broad enough for a group with different appetites, from a sandwich to a complete meal. Contact Tangana directly for the current opening schedule and table arrangements, particularly when planning around a beach session or a busy holiday period.

Carretera Nacional 340, km 76.6, Playa de Valdevaqueros, 11380 Tarifa

Tumbao x BiBo brings Dani García's BiBo cooking to the beach atmosphere of Valdevaqueros. The Tarifa venue combines the names Tumbao and BiBo in its current identity, with a menu that places familiar Andalusian ingredients beside ideas gathered from farther afield. Its coastal setting makes it a natural place to build a meal around a visit to this stretch of sand. The evening menu gives a clear picture of the style. Guacamole starts with Málaga avocado and comes with pico de gallo, coriander and crisp totopos. Filled brioches take a richer direction: one combines chorizo, chipotle and a quail's egg, while another uses oxtail and the kitchen's Bull DG sauce. These are choices for diners who enjoy recognisable ingredients with a playful combination of textures and seasoning. Pizza and burgers give the meal another direction. The margarita uses tomato, fior di latte mozzarella and basil; other pizzas add prosciutto, pepperoni or a mixture of vegetables. Retinto beef features in the Tumbao burger with cheddar, bacon, barbecue sauce and onion. The Bull version instead pairs its beef with Havarti, lettuce and the signature sauce. Because lunch and evening menus are published separately, check the selection for your intended service rather than assuming every dish is available all day. The restaurant's own reservation channel is the best place to confirm a table and current seasonal opening. It is a useful choice for a beach-day meal when the group wants a range of approachable dishes and the distinctive cooking associated with the BiBo name.

El Mirlo

Example photo of the cuisine — not photographed at this venue Farhad Ibrahimzade / Pexels

Punta Paloma, s/n, 11380 Tarifa

+34951552688

El Mirlo sits beyond the dunes of Punta Paloma, where Tarifa's coast becomes a setting for a meal close to the beach. The restaurant belongs to the Marbella Club dining family, whose presentation places chef Juan Gómez behind its cooking. The appeal begins with the coastal location, then continues through a menu rooted in fish, shellfish and the products of southern Spain. A meal can start with gazpacho, potato salad with tuna belly, grilled octopus or prawns in pil-pil sauce. Fried squid, baby squid and anchovies offer another approach to the sea. Mussels with white wine, clams in marinera sauce and grilled shellfish broaden the choice, while whole fish such as sea bass, sole and turbot are listed according to weight. Almadraba bluefin tuna receives particular attention. The menu includes tiradito with truffle and ponzu, tartare with ajoblanco, tataki with salmorejo and almonds, tuna meatballs in tomato sauce and grilled tuna steak. Rice dishes are prepared for at least two people, with seafood paella and versions built around lobster, carabineros or Ibérico pork. There are also Retinto beef, lamb chops and roast cauliflower with romesco. The breakfast selection gives an earlier reason to visit, with toast accompanied by tomato, Payoyo cheese, ham or avocado. For lunch or dinner, reserve directly and ask about the current fish, rice preparations and service times. A table here is particularly suited to visitors who want a coastal excursion to include a substantial Andalusian meal rather than only a quick beach snack.

La Carboná

Jerez de la Frontera · Spanish · Fish and seafood

Example photo of the cuisine — not photographed at this venue makafood / Pexels

Calle San Francisco de Paula, 2, 11401 Jerez de la Frontera

+34956347475

La Carboná brings Jerez's wine culture directly to the table in a former bodega on Calle San Francisco de Paula. Its historic setting gives a meal here a clear sense of place, while the kitchen treats sherry as an ingredient as well as something to drink. Chef Javier Muñoz's approach connects local produce with contemporary preparations, making this a distinctive option for visitors who want their restaurant choice to be part of discovering Jerez. The published menu shows how that relationship works. Cod is paired with orange and Oloroso in an escabeche; an Iberian pork preparation incorporates Palo Cortado; and sea bass appears alongside chargrilled vegetables. These examples describe the restaurant's approach rather than a fixed promise for every visit, as the kitchen explicitly adjusts dishes and garnishes to the season. For a more guided meal, the La Albarizuela tasting menu follows a sequence of dishes with accompanying wines. The restaurant also publishes an à-la-carte selection and a separate midweek menu, so it is worth checking which format is available when booking. Diners choosing the paired menu should note that the restaurant serves it to the whole table. La Carboná is particularly relevant after exploring Jerez's bodegas or historic centre: the connection between the surrounding wine region and the cooking continues through the meal. Reserve directly to confirm the current menu, dietary requirements and service time.

Calle Divina Pastora, Conjunto Residencial Valdespino, bloque 6, 11403 Jerez de la Frontera

+34956346488

Albalá offers a contemporary way to explore Jerez's cooking near the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. Located in the Valdespino residential complex on Calle Divina Pastora, it is convenient for a meal away from the busiest historic-centre squares. The restaurant presents the culinary identity of Israel Ramos through a relaxed format that gives equal room to sharing plates and a more substantial lunch. Its menu is organised into clear sections for produce, small bites, shared dishes, spoon dishes, seafood, meat and desserts. Almadraba tuna, sherry vinegar and local wine references place the cooking in its Andalusian setting, while citrus ponzu, Thai-style seasoning and pibil preparations show an interest in flavours beyond the region. Sea-bass ceviche with avocado is one published example of that combination. There is considerable variety for a table that wants to share: the menu includes asparagus tempura, oxtail croquettes, grilled squid and a cheek-and-chicken cannelloni with Oloroso béchamel. Rice and noodle dishes provide another direction, while the dessert selection includes pumpkin cake with Palo Cortado and a homemade cream-and-egg flan. These examples are a useful guide to the kitchen, with current availability best checked when booking. Albalá works particularly well as a dining stop around a visit to the equestrian school or the northern edge of central Jerez. Reserve directly through the restaurant and discuss dietary requirements and the day's service before setting out.

Calle Ramón de Cala, 13, 11403 Jerez de la Frontera

+34675548584

Atuvera is a gastro-tavern beside the Lola Flores monument in Jerez's San Miguel neighbourhood. Its name pays tribute to the singer, and the setting is part of the appeal: the restaurant describes its home as former sixteenth-century stables in a protected building. The result is a place where a meal connects with the city's musical and architectural character without taking the form of a formal heritage visit. The cooking travels beyond a strictly traditional tapas menu. Published dishes include lamb skewers with spiced couscous and a squid-filled mollete with Manzanilla sherry aioli. A cold selection includes a couscous salad with peach vinaigrette. These combinations show how the kitchen places local ingredients and wines alongside influences from farther afield, rather than limiting the table to one familiar regional repertoire. Sherry remains a strong local thread. The region's wine council lists Atuvera as a place to explore styles including Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Palo Cortado, and records mussels with Thai-style vinaigrette among its food pairings. Ask the team about the wines and dishes available during your visit instead of assuming a particular pairing is permanent. The informal format suits visitors exploring San Miguel who want an evening centred on several flavours and conversation. Book through the restaurant's own reservation link and confirm service times directly. The restaurant is associated with Apartamentos Jerez, with its own table-reservation service for diners exploring the neighbourhood.

Calle Consistorio, 12, 11403 Jerez de la Frontera

+34956320266

Albores sits on Calle Consistorio in central Jerez de la Frontera, where it offers a market-led approach to Spanish cooking. The address places it among the historic centre's dining streets, making it a practical choice when a day of sightseeing leads into lunch or dinner. Its focus is broad enough for a mixed table: the regional tourism authority describes a kitchen built around vegetables, fish from the Bay of Cádiz and Spanish meats. The restaurant combines traditional foundations with international influences, so its identity comes from the ingredients and their preparation rather than a narrowly fixed style. Fish provides a particularly relevant connection with nearby Cádiz, while seasonal vegetables and meat dishes offer alternatives for guests who prefer a different direction. Ask about the day's selection to see how that market approach is expressed during your visit. The setting is described by the regional tourism authority as contemporary, and the restaurant offers special group menus and event spaces. Those arrangements can be useful for a shared occasion in the city, but should be discussed directly so the table size and dining format are clear before arrival. An ordinary meal and a prearranged group menu are different options. For travellers staying in Jerez, Albores offers a central restaurant choice that connects the city's urban setting with the wider region's produce. Use the published telephone or email to confirm the current menu, service hours and any dietary needs; online third-party schedules differ, so they should not determine your plans alone.

Calle Consistorio, 16, Plaza de la Yerba, 11403 Jerez de la Frontera

+34956324535

La Cruz Blanca occupies a traditional Jerez house beside Plaza de la Yerba, with indoor dining rooms and a spacious terrace. Its Calle Consistorio address makes it a natural stop during a visit to the historic centre. The restaurant combines familiar Andalusian cooking with more contemporary tapas, allowing a meal to stay focused on regional flavours without requiring everyone at the table to order in the same way. The menu moves from small plates to fuller courses. Sherry vinegar appears with clams, Oloroso flavours beef meatballs, and local berza offers a hearty contrast to the fish and shellfish dishes. Garlic prawns, fried squid and seafood paella provide clear choices for guests drawn to the coast's cooking. A selection of cured cheeses and Iberian ham suits a shared opening to the meal. The surroundings and the menu give this restaurant two useful roles: a place for a relaxed series of tapas, or a longer lunch with individual main courses. Jerez wines are prominent in the cellar, offering an opportunity to explore pairings alongside ingredients and sauces that already reflect the region. Reservations are available through the restaurant's own website or telephone. Guests bringing a dog should request an outdoor high table and mention their pet when booking, following the restaurant's stated terrace policy. Confirm the current service times and any dietary requirements directly before visiting.

Casa Isabel

El Palmar de Vejer · Spanish · Steak and grill · Fish and seafood

Camino de Guerrero 273, 11159 El Palmar de Vejer

+34637395774

Casa Isabel sits on Camino de Guerrero in El Palmar, around three hundred meters from the beach. Its cooking is rooted in Cádiz, with fish and shellfish from the bay, almadraba tuna, and Retinto beef from La Janda. The house describes its style as traditional cooking with modern touches, giving the menu a familiar regional foundation without limiting it to a single specialty. Breakfast has its own substantial selection. Diners can choose molletes, seed bread, wholemeal bread or gluten free bread, with toppings that include Iberian ham, aged cheese and avocado. Named combinations range from egg with crushed tomato and olive oil to goat cheese with honey and walnuts. Coffee, herbal teas, fresh juice and filled croissants round out that side of the offer. The main menu moves through shared starters, salads, rice, fried fish, seafood and meat. Octopus appears in several preparations, including Galician style and sautéed with garlic prawns. There are croquettes made with ham, stew ingredients or garlic prawns, alongside clams with sherry and grilled razor clams. Rice choices include black rice, seafood rice, scarlet prawn rice and a vegetable version that requires advance ordering. Retinto steaks and Iberian pork give meat eaters several alternatives, while the wine selection draws on producers across Spain. Takeaway food is available for collection after calling the restaurant. For guests staying nearby, the combination of breakfast dishes and a broad regional menu makes Casa Isabel useful for more than one kind of meal.

Restaurante La Fontanilla

Conil de la Frontera · Spanish · Fish and seafood · Takes reservations

Playa de la Fontanilla s/n, 11140 Conil de la Frontera

+34956441130

La Fontanilla stands directly on its namesake beach in Conil de la Frontera, beside the beach car park. The restaurant began in 1964 as a bar serving fishermen returning from the sea, and the Pérez Rubio family remains central to its story. Pedro and Antonio Pérez Rubio continue that tradition, with a kitchen that gives particular attention to the local fishing grounds and their catch. The setting looks over the sand and water, keeping the connection between the dining table and the coast visible throughout a meal. Fish native to the Conil coast and bluefin tuna from the almadrabas of Conil and Barbate are the main attractions. The broader offer includes shellfish, rice dishes, fried fish, vegetables from Conil's market gardens, and Retinto beef. A separate wild bluefin tuna menu explores that ingredient in greater depth, while individual wine and dessert menus complete the selection. The restaurant also publishes suggestions under Fernanda's name, adding another route into the house's cooking. Its history helps explain the emphasis on seafood: what started as a stopping place for working fishermen developed into a beach restaurant whose identity still rests on traditional fishing. For visitors based in El Palmar, it offers a nearby excursion to another part of the same coast, with Conil's produce at the center of the meal. Tables can be requested by telephone. Diners with allergies or food intolerances are asked to speak with the dining room staff for information about the dishes.

Carretera de la Playa s/n, 11159 El Palmar de Vejer

+34659215281

Casa Juan is a seafront restaurant in El Palmar whose story dates to 1979. Its cooking brings together seafood from the surrounding coast and vegetables from the gardens of Conil and Vejer. The house calls this approach Producto Km0, emphasizing the ingredients of the area while giving traditional dishes contemporary accompaniments. The menu has a substantial bluefin tuna section. Preparations include tartare with truffle or a spicy seasoning, marinated cubes with mango ajoblanco and seaweed croutons, and grilled tarantelo with vegetable couscous and green tomato compote. Tuna ribs cooked in the Josper come with barbecue sauce and potatoes, while another cut is served with pumpkin and orange cream and roasted garlic. Rice is a central part of the offer, particularly black rice with cuttlefish and rice with scarlet prawns. These dishes are made for at least two people and must be ordered in advance. To begin, there are seasonal tomato salads, fried octopus with avocado and mango, fried anchovies with lemon, and squid with black aioli. Prawn meatballs with pine nut and fried garlic sauce provide another sharing option. Beyond seafood, the menu lists grilled Iberian pork, slowly cooked pluma with mushrooms, and beef sirloin with foie. Desserts include baked cheesecake with pears, lemon sorbet, and chocolate in several textures with salted toffee. Bookings use the restaurant's online reservation system; changes to an existing reservation can be discussed by telephone, subject to availability.

Restaurante El Alférez

El Palmar de Vejer · Spanish · Fish and seafood · Seating outdoors

Paseo Marítimo s/n, 11159 El Palmar de Vejer

+34626580895

El Alférez faces Playa El Palmar from the seafront promenade, with a terrace and a kitchen shaped by the sea. The restaurant connects its food to family tradition while making room for contemporary combinations. Its principal ingredients are local seafood and bluefin tuna caught by the almadraba method, and its signature rice dish features carabineros, the large scarlet prawns associated with this stretch of coast. The main menu provides several ways into a meal. Shared starters include smoked sardines with curd cheese and green tomato jam, artichokes with Payoyo cheese cream and mojama, and croquettes served over Parmesan cream. Soups and stews bring a more substantial side of the cooking: chickpeas with prawns, beans with octopus, and a fish soup with prawns and clams. Rice dishes are prepared for a minimum of two diners. Alongside the scarlet prawn version are black rice with squid and clams, fideuá with shellfish, and mushroom risotto with truffle. Fish from the market depends on availability; the menu also offers grilled squid, baked squid with olive oil, and fish with clams and prawns in the Roteña style. Guests who prefer meat can choose from beef, Iberian pork and chicken dishes. Separate tuna, dessert and wine menus allow the meal to develop in different directions. The house asks diners to tell the staff about allergies or intolerances, and table reservations are accepted through its online booking system.

Casa Francisco El de Siempre

El Palmar de Vejer · Spanish · Fish and seafood · Vegan

Paseo Marítimo s/n, 11150 El Palmar de Vejer

+34956232249

Casa Francisco El de Siempre stands beside the beach in El Palmar, with the Atlantic setting the direction of its kitchen. The restaurant describes its cooking through three ideas: produce, proximity and flavor. Familiar coastal dishes share the menu with newer combinations, so a meal can move from fried fish to raw seafood preparations without losing its connection to the surrounding coast. Rice dishes and seafood stews have a prominent place, including paella, creamy rice with scarlet prawns, and noodle dishes with clams. Several of these preparations are intended for at least two people. Bluefin tuna is another focus, with a separate selection covering different cuts and treatments. The menu includes tuna tartare with guacamole, sashimi of the fatty belly, and grilled tuna belly with the day's garnish. Starters range from chilled tomato and almond soups to cured Payoyo cheese with quince and walnuts. There are marinated Barbate sardines, fried anchovies with lemon, and market squid alongside prawns and clams. Vegetables from the gardens of Conil also appear, including a grilled selection offered with a vegan option. The building has several distinct places to sit: a terrace, an area with high tables, and a lookout space. That variety is useful when choosing between a meal centered on shared dishes and a table with the beach as its backdrop. The restaurant accepts reservations online and publishes a telephone contact for booking enquiries.

Ristorante Mont Néry is the restaurant of the Villa Fridau residence in Gressoney-Saint-Jean. Its name goes back to the Locanda Mont Néry, which the family's great-uncles Erwin and Pina Monterin ran in the village in the 1950s. Today Marysa looks after the dining room and chef Boris Melon runs the kitchen. The cooking is Aosta Valley and Piedmontese, built on produce from close by: the valley's cured meats and cheeses, fresh pasta made in the house with a choice of sauces, and game served with polenta. The ice cream is homemade, in flavors that follow the season, and Boris and Marysa are glad to suggest a bottle from the wine list.

The kitchen reworks Aosta Valley classics with produce from nearby: fassone beef fillet with lime and pink pepper, beef cooked slowly and served with tuna sauce, fresh tagliolini with artichokes and guanciale, or cheek braised in Torrette red wine and served with polenta and glazed shallots. The menu changes with the seasons, and the bar pours cocktails and wines from many regions. Tables can be booked online, by phone or on WhatsApp.

Route de l’Allex 2, 1880 Bex

La Colonne is an Italian restaurant and pizzeria on Route de l'Allex in Bex. Mia and Orhan reopened this established family address in August 2025, bringing a new team to a house whose restaurant history stretches back to 1972. The dining room, bright veranda and terrace offer different settings for the same homemade Italian cooking. Pizza is a central part of the menu. The dough is made in-house and given a slow rise, with fresh toppings and careful baking. Beyond pizza, the kitchen prepares homemade tagliatelle, potato gnocchi and ravioli filled with ricotta. These dishes make it possible to choose a full pasta meal even when other people at the table have come specifically for pizza. The menu follows the seasons and market produce. One of the restaurant's own examples is wild-boar meatballs in tomato sauce during the game season. A changing lunchtime menu provides another option alongside the regular selection. Ask what is available that day rather than expecting seasonal dishes to remain on the card throughout the year. The terrace has a wood-burning stove, while the bar provides a place for an Italian coffee or an aperitif. La Colonne can also be booked for private occasions. It opens later on Mondays than on the rest of its working week and closes on Sundays. Grotto 04 is a family restaurant, pizzeria and wine bar in the centre of Bex. Its menu combines Mediterranean and Italian cooking with several Kosovar specialities. The restaurant has operated since 2001 and gives local ingredients a specific role: pizza flour is produced with a Vaud farmer, vegetables come from the market and the meat is Swiss. Pizzas range from a simple Margherita to combinations using vegetables, seafood or Kosovar beef sausage. The menu also offers linguine, risotto, hand-cut beef tartare, perch fillets and burgers. Kosovar-style chicken and a wine-based meat fondue are dishes to arrange in advance for at least two people. Risotto is cooked to order, so allow a little extra time if that is your choice. There are separate options for younger guests, including pasta, small pizzas and meat dishes. Gluten-free pasta can be requested, but allergies should still be discussed with the staff before ordering. The venue is on one level and has an outdoor terrace for summer meals, making it practical for different kinds of groups. The wine bar is another distinctive part of Grotto 04, with more than 300 references and a strong emphasis on Swiss wines. Bottles can be enjoyed here or bought to take away. Rue Centrale 8, 1880 Bex

The Hôtel de Ville on Rue Centrale is a restaurant in the centre of Bex; despite its name, it does not offer hotel rooms. Its cooking draws on Italian and Swiss traditions, with a shaded terrace behind the dining room and additional rooms for private occasions. It works for a meal in town when your group wants a wider choice than pizza alone. The Italian side of the menu includes homemade lasagne, aubergine parmigiana, spaghetti with clams and morel risotto. Swiss dishes include Bernese rösti with bacon and egg, Tomme Vaudoise with seasonal salad and cheese fondue from Moléson. This combination allows diners to choose between pasta and local cheese-based dishes at the same table. Fish and meat broaden the selection further, from perch fillets and sea bream to beef tartare, duck breast and a house burger. A wine-based meat fondue is available by reservation for at least two people. For dessert, the restaurant lists Italian favourites such as tiramisu and Sicilian ricotta cannoli, alongside crème brûlée and chocolate cake. The kitchen prepares dishes to order and offers smaller discovery portions for children under twelve. A changing dish of the day is served from Tuesday to Friday. Ordinary service runs Tuesday to Saturday, with separate daytime and evening kitchen sessions. Sunday and Monday openings can be arranged for groups of at least fifteen. Contact the team before travelling for an off-day gathering or a dish that needs advance preparation.

La Palta stands in Bilegno, a hamlet so small that the restaurant describes itself as a hidden gem behind uneven walls — set among gentle hills, kitchen gardens and old houses in the province of Piacenza. The building gives nothing away from the road, which is part of how the place presents itself. The cooking is ambitious rather than rustic, and the house says so in its own words: the eyes come before the nose and the palate. Unexpected combinations are the method. Two dishes stand for the range — tortelli con la coda, the tailed parcels that are the signature pasta of Piacenza and are folded here in the traditional way, and black ravioli served in an exotic broth that belongs to no local tradition at all. The kitchen is run by a female chef, and the house describes eating here as travelling between the smells of home and inspirations from far away. Gift vouchers for a lunch or dinner are sold through the restaurant's own site. Service runs Tuesday to Saturday, lunch from half past twelve to half past two and dinner from eight to ten. On Sunday there is lunch only, and Monday it is closed. Booking is advisable: the room is small and the restaurant draws people from well beyond the province. You will find La Palta at Frazione Bilegno 67, 29011 Bilegno, Piacenza.

Antica trattoria Del Tempio stands on Via Creta in Vicobarone, a hamlet of Ziano Piacentino in the Val Tidone. The name is the owners' own and says what kind of house it is: a trattoria, and an old one — the everyday restaurant of an Italian village rather than a destination built for visitors. The opening hours describe how it is used. Lunch is served every day except Wednesday, from midday to half past two. Dinner exists on Friday and Saturday only, from eight to ten. A kitchen arranged that way is cooking for people who eat their main meal in the middle of the day, which in this part of Emilia is still most of them, and it means a visitor planning an evening here on a Tuesday will find it closed. Vicobarone sits in the Colli Piacentini, the wine hills between the Po plain and the Apennine ridge. The province is known for three cured meats with protected status — coppa, pancetta and salame piacentino — and for Gutturnio, the red grown on these slopes. Ziano Piacentino is one of the centres of that production, and Vicobarone is one of its hamlets. We hold no website for this trattoria, so nothing is described here about its cooking. The telephone is the way to ask, and to book. You will find it at Via Creta 6, 29010 Vicobarone, Ziano Piacentino.

Auberge de Pont-de-Nant sits at 1,253 metres at the entrance to the Vallon de Nant, beneath the Grand Muveran. The mountain setting is central to a visit: the inn is a stop on the Tour des Muverans, and the La Thomasia alpine botanical garden is around 100 metres away. Jordi, Maddy-Ann and Marco lead the current team. The kitchen follows the seasons. Its autumn menu includes venison with homemade spätzli, wild-boar parmentier and trout from Vionnaz that is marinated and smoked in-house. A mushroom small-spelt risotto provides a vegetable-focused alternative, while cheese fondue comes with several possible variations. Children have a smaller chalet macaroni dish. These are seasonal examples, so consult the current card before a special journey. Desserts continue the regional and autumn themes, with roasted figs, a raisinée cheesecake and a chocolate dessert with chestnut mousse. A shared hunter's caquelon is offered for at least two people. Reserve a table in advance, since the inn specifically warns that availability is limited during its autumn service. Access needs planning in winter. In summer the road reaches the inn and public parking is available. From roughly November to April, the last two kilometres close to vehicles; guests continue from Les Plans-sur-Bex on foot or with appropriate winter equipment, depending on conditions. Check the current route and opening dates directly, including the scheduled November closure. This is a destination meal in the mountains rather than a town-centre restaurant.

Casa Galli is a farmhouse restaurant on the hillside at Albareto above Ziano, in the Val Tidone, where the family has cooked for guests since 1997 and the view from the terrace is vineyards down to the valley. The dining room is old stone with a fireplace and candles; in summer the tables move out under the porticoes, and there is a play area for children, which makes it an easy Sunday lunch for families. The food is Piacenza cooking without shortcuts: house cured meats, gnocco fritto, tortelli and pisarei made in the kitchen, roasts, and the Gutturnio of the hills to drink. It opens Wednesday to Sunday, lunch and dinner except Sunday evening; there are rooms and apartments for anyone who wants to stay after the wine.

La Colombaia is an agriturismo above Ziano Piacentino, in the westernmost of the Piacenza valleys. The land was in the family for years before Guido turned it into an agriturismo, and the kitchen is described by the house as cucina piacentina doc — the cooking of this province and no other. The estate is arranged for eating outdoors without depending on the weather: three dining rooms stand in the open but under cover, all of them looking out over the valley, with a bar area for drinks and two further rooms inside. That combination is worth knowing in a region where a summer evening can turn without warning. It sits among the hills and is used as a starting point for the country around it — mountain biking, riding and walking all begin at the door, and the valley is crossed by roads that lead through the historical, scenic and gastronomic parts of the province. The Colli Piacentini are wine country: Gutturnio, Ortrugo and Malvasia are grown on these slopes, and Ziano Piacentino is one of the centres of that. Opening is limited and worth planning around. Friday evening only from eight to ten; Saturday lunch from half past twelve and dinner from eight; Sunday the same with lunch running until half past three. Monday to Thursday it is closed. You will find La Colombaia at Località Arcello 1, 29010 Ziano Piacentino.

Locanda San Lupo stands among the hills and vineyards above Ziano Piacentino, and its own line for itself is where taste meets the sunset. That is a fair description of what it sells: the terrace looks out over the vines, and the house treats the evening light as part of the meal rather than as scenery that happens to be there. It is more than a dining room, in its own account — a refuge in the quiet of the hills, where the point is that time slows down. In practice that means it works for two quite different occasions: a family Sunday lunch, and a dinner for two once the lights come on. There is a wine list, which matters here — these slopes are the Colli Piacentini, and Gutturnio, Ortrugo and Malvasia are grown in the fields the terrace looks at. The hours are unusual and worth reading twice: this is an evening restaurant. It serves dinner from eight to eleven every day except Wednesday, when it is closed, and it does not open for lunch at all. Anyone arriving at midday will find the door shut. Ziano Piacentino lies in the Val Tidone, about forty minutes south-west of Piacenza and well inside an hour of Milan, which makes this a plausible evening out from the city as well as a local one. You will find Locanda San Lupo at Strada Comunale Lupo 101, 29010 Ziano Piacentino.

Route de Sodoleuvre 6, 1882 Gryon

L'Étable is a mountain restaurant in the Les Chaux area above Gryon, near Taveyannes. Its name reflects the building's original use: a former stable has been converted into a dining room for regional Swiss cooking. A broad wooden terrace looks across the surrounding mountain pastures, providing an outdoor option during suitable weather. The food follows that alpine setting. Specialities highlighted by the restaurant and regional tourism office include mushroom cassolette with rösti, roast pork knuckle with honey and half-and-half cheese fondue. Vegetable dishes and a children's selection broaden the choice. The menu changes with the season, so check which preparations are being served when you reserve. Animals are a distinctive part of a visit here. The small educational farm is reserved for restaurant guests and includes donkeys, goats, rabbits and chickens. The tourism office also describes animals in their own space behind glass beside the restaurant. For families, this gives the meal an additional point of interest without turning it into a separate outing to a distant attraction. In summer, the restaurant can be reached via the Route des Chaux from Gryon or as part of a walk from Taveyannes. It also welcomes winter visitors, with a separate terrace hut offering lighter refreshments. Opening times depend on the season and conditions; check access and food-service hours before setting out. Make a direct reservation for your table, particularly if you are organising a group or fitting lunch around a mountain walk.

Località Negrese 308, 29010 Ziano Piacentino

Agriturismo Il Negrese is a family-run farm and winery in the hills of Ziano Piacentino. Its restaurant is part of the same property as the guest accommodation, making it the natural first dining address for guests staying at Il Negrese. The dining room was created in the farm's former barn, preserving a connection with the building's working history. The kitchen focuses on the traditions of Piacenza rather than a broad international menu. Handmade pasta, homemade bread and cakes are central to the offer described by the local tourism authorities. The farm's own wines accompany the cooking, so a meal can also introduce visitors to the local wine-growing landscape around Ziano. This is a place to contact in advance. The official tourism listing describes meals as available by reservation on both weekdays and holidays, without promising a fixed daily walk-in schedule. Ask what the kitchen is preparing, whether a set menu applies and how dietary requirements can be accommodated. An overnight stay does not automatically mean that dinner is included in the accommodation price. Use the full Località Negrese 308 address and the agriturismo's published telephone number when arranging your visit. The dining building and guest rooms are adjacent, while visitors staying elsewhere can enquire about a restaurant reservation. Reserved parking is listed by the tourism office. For a group meal or a visit centered on the wines, discuss the arrangements directly before traveling into the hills.

Le Proposte is a family restaurant in the hamlet of Corano, in Borgonovo Val Tidone, in the hills of the province of Piacenza. Its beginning is unusual and the family tells it plainly: twenty-five years ago Danila and Luigi, with their daughter Manuela, bought a farmhouse in a panoramic position meaning it to be a second home. Cooking took over. In the year 2000 the house opened as a restaurant, and it has been run by the family ever since. The kitchen is traditional and the work is done on the premises: cured meats are aged in the restaurant's own cellars, the pasta is made in the house, and the ingredients are handled daily rather than bought prepared. In this part of Emilia that is not a marketing line — salumi and hand-made pasta are what the province is known for, and doing both in-house is the difference between a country restaurant and a country restaurant worth driving to. The dining room seats about forty. In summer lunch and dinner are served on the panoramic terrace, which is the reason the farmhouse was bought in the first place. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday. From Wednesday to Saturday it serves lunch from half past twelve to two and dinner from eight to eleven; on Sunday the evening ends an hour earlier. Booking is sensible in a room of forty seats. You will find Le Proposte at Frazione Corano 35, 29011 Borgonovo Val Tidone, Piacenza.

Via Pasteria on Corso Italia does one thing: pasta. The house motto is "for the love of pasta", and the menu is built around it rather than treating it as the first of several courses — which is a departure from the usual Italian structure and the reason the place works for a quick lunch as readily as for dinner. The list changes with the season, and there is a dish of the month alongside it. Recent examples give the flavour of the kitchen: linguine with organic Parmesan, Sicilian lemon, chives and sturgeon caviar; cold conchigliette with cave-aged pecorino, confit tomatoes, Cerignola olives, Sicilian lemon and crusco pepper; paccheri alla Norma with marinated purple aubergine, twenty-four-month Parmigiano Reggiano from Vacche Rosse cattle and salted ricotta; linguine with clams and bottarga. The ingredients are named down to the breed of cow, which tells you where the attention goes. It is open every day, straight through from midday to half past ten at night, with no afternoon closure — genuinely useful in a city where most kitchens shut between three and seven and a late lunch becomes impossible. Corso Italia runs south from the Duomo towards Porta Ludovica, a few minutes' walk from the cathedral and from the Missori metro stop, so this is easy to reach on foot from anywhere in the historic centre. You will find Via Pasteria at Corso Italia 16, 20122 Milano.

Piz is a pizzeria on Via Torino in central Milan, and by review count it is the most talked-about place to eat in the city — more than sixteen thousand people have rated it, far ahead of any restaurant in Milan. It has been open for over ten years, which in a city where fashions and venues turn over quickly is the point the house makes about itself. The format is deliberately narrow: Neapolitan-style pizza, a short menu, a low price band. There is seating outdoors and pizza can be collected to take away. What the numbers describe is a room that is busy from midday onwards, and the queue outside is part of the experience rather than a sign that something went wrong — going early or late is the practical advice. It is open every day. Monday and Tuesday it runs in two sittings, midday to three and seven to eleven; from Wednesday to Sunday it stays open straight through from midday to eleven at night. Via Torino leads southwest out of Piazza del Duomo towards the Carrobbio, so this is a five-minute walk from the cathedral and inside the ring most visitors never leave. If you are staying anywhere central you can walk here, and the street itself is one of Milan's busiest shopping runs. You will find Piz at Via Torino 34, 20123 Milano.

Princi is a Milanese bakery, and the shop on Via Speronari is a few steps from the Duomo. The house has been baking since 1986 under the name L'Artigiano del Pane — the craftsman of bread — and it is one of the small number of Milanese food names that became international without leaving: there are Princi bakeries in the United States, Japan, China and Kuwait, all of them selling what the company calls the spirit of Milan. What is sold is bread, pizza, focaccia and pastries, baked through the day rather than in one morning batch, which is why the counter looks different at nine in the morning and at five in the afternoon. Focaccia and pizza al taglio are sold by weight and eaten standing or taken away, and that is how most of the queue uses the place: this is a bakery, not a restaurant, and there is no table service. It opens every day from half past seven in the morning until half past seven in the evening — long hours by Milanese standards, and unusual in covering Sunday. Via Speronari is a short pedestrian street running off Via Torino, inside the block between the Duomo and Piazza Missori. If you are staying in the centre this is the practical answer to breakfast, and a better one than the hotel buffet. You will find Princi at Via Speronari 6, 20123 Milan.

Ristorante Galleria sits inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the glass-roofed arcade that runs between the Duomo and La Scala. That address is the whole of its character: you eat under the iron and glass of the 1870s, in what is arguably the most photographed interior space in Milan, with the mosaic floor and the passing crowd as the setting. One practical point matters more than anything else here, and the restaurant states it plainly on its own site: the only way to reach them is by e-mail, to info@ristorantegalleria.it, and a booking counts only once they have confirmed it by e-mail in return. They do not use WhatsApp or any messaging service. Anyone booking through a third party claiming otherwise is not booking this restaurant. The kitchen is open long hours — from ten in the morning until midnight, every day of the week — so it covers a mid-morning coffee, lunch, an afternoon in the arcade and a late dinner after the opera. Tables stand out in the Galleria itself. The location makes it one of the easiest addresses in Milan to find and one of the hardest to get a table at on short notice: the Duomo metro stop empties directly into the arcade. If you are staying in the centre, you will pass the door whether you plan to or not. You will find Ristorante Galleria at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II 75, 20121 Milano.
