UpTop Jamaican Restaurant & Lounge

UpTop is a Jamaican kitchen with a lounge attached, on SW 107th Avenue at the northern edge of Cutler Bay. The card is the full island repertoire rather than a jerk stand: oxtail cooked slowly until it falls off the bone, curry goat, brown stew chicken and escovitch fish, each served the traditional way with rice and peas or steamed cabbage. The doors open at eight in the morning and the kitchen runs through until nine in the evening from Monday to Thursday, which is unusual for the style and makes it useful at hours when most Caribbean kitchens in South Florida are closed. There is a lounge as well as a dining room, so the room fills and gets louder as the evening goes on. For a guest staying in Cutler Bay who wants to eat something that belongs to this part of Miami rather than to a national menu, this is the short drive to make, and takeout is the usual way people order it on a weeknight.
