Aruba is the reliably sunny corner of the Caribbean, a small, arid island where warm, dry weather holds through most of the year. Its west coast is the postcard: Palm Beach, the busy high-rise strip lined with hotels, restaurants, and water sports leaving straight from the sand, and quieter Eagle Beach next door, wider and calmer, watched over by the island's famous wind-bent divi-divi trees. The capital, Oranjestad, sits just to the south with its pastel Dutch-Caribbean facades and shopping. Turn away from the beaches, though, and Aruba shows a wilder face. Arikok National Park covers a large slice of the rugged northeast, all cactus, rock, and pounding surf, while the far north around Arashi and the California Lighthouse draws snorkellers and windsurfers. Down south, San Nicolas and Baby Beach offer street art and shallow, sheltered swimming. The island is only around 30 kilometres end to end, so a hire car makes every corner reachable in a day.

When is the best time to visit Aruba?
Aruba is warm, sunny, and dry for most of the year, which is a big part of its appeal. It also sits outside the main Caribbean hurricane belt, so weather tends to be more dependable than on many neighbouring islands, though it is always worth checking a current forecast.
Palm Beach or Eagle Beach - which suits me?
Palm Beach is the developed, energetic side with high-rise hotels and plenty going on. Eagle Beach is wider, calmer, and lower-key, with the famous divi-divi trees. Families wanting activity often lean to Palm Beach; those wanting space and quiet prefer Eagle.
Do I need a car in Aruba?
The island is small, so you can walk or take a short taxi or bus between the main beaches and Oranjestad. A hire car is worth it if you want to explore Arikok National Park, the rugged north coast, or the southern beaches around San Nicolas.
What is there to do beyond the beach?
Explore Arikok National Park's desert landscape and caves, snorkel or windsurf near the California Lighthouse, wander Oranjestad's colourful streets, and see the street-art murals of San Nicolas. Shallow Baby Beach in the south is ideal for calm swimming.
