Gasthaus Bärmann

Gasthaus Bärmann is a fourth generation hotel and restaurant on Hauptstraße in Contwig, where a history of innkeeping and butchery still informs the food. The house favors personal hospitality, regional ingredients and seasonal cooking, with Palatinate wine and beer alongside substantial meals. Its current autumn selection includes chanterelle soup, lamb’s lettuce, braised fallow deer with porcini gravy and bread dumplings, and venison fillet with tagliatelle and kale. Chocolate mousse and apple strudel with cream provide a sweet finish. The broader menu includes homemade potato soup and clear beef broth with marrow dumplings and Maultaschen. Schnitzel comes in several preparations, including a breaded pork version with lemon and fries, a mushroom cream variation, and turkey cordon bleu filled with ham and cheese. Rump steak can be served with herb butter and fried onions or pepper cream sauce. Fish and seafood choices include poached salmon with Riesling cream and prawn skewers on buttered noodles. Meat free alternatives include spinach dumplings with sage butter and a vegetable noodle pan with mushrooms, peppers and herbs. Themed food events are part of the house’s routine, from steak and herring meals to its traditional Schlachtfest. The autumn program also includes local game and roast suckling pig. Family celebrations are another specialty: weddings, birthdays, communions and confirmations can be arranged for up to fifty people, with an individual menu or buffet. The team also helps plan catered celebrations away from the restaurant.
