Rates checked in September 2026. Under its single-fee structure, Airbnb charges most hosts 15.5%; Airbnb says other hosts typically pay between 14% and 16%. Exceptions depend on country and account type. Booking.com sets the commission rate in each accommodation agreement, and visibility programmes may increase it. This worked example uses a possible range of 15% to 25%. If Booking.com facilitates payment, the applicable payment terms and transaction cost are contract-specific. Our 6.9% cost contribution is included in the displayed total and contributes towards Stripe payment fees and refunds. Nothing is added at checkout and nothing is deducted from the owner. Fee models can change, so please check each platform’s current terms. Sources: Airbnb Help Center and Booking.com General Delivery Terms.

Popular places to stay in Malta

Malta squeezes an outsized amount into a small Mediterranean archipelago, and its English-speaking, easy-to-reach setup makes it a simple place to base yourself. Valletta, the fortified capital, is a UNESCO-listed grid of honey-coloured stone packed with churches, palaces and gardens overlooking the Grand Harbour, with a famous Caravaggio inside St John's Co-Cathedral. Along the coast, Sliema and St Julian's form the modern hub for the seafront promenade, shopping, dining and nightlife, and they make a practical base with good transport links. Inland sits Mdina, the walled Silent City, whose lanes empty out and turn atmospheric once the day-trip coaches leave. Across a short ferry, Gozo feels greener, slower and more rural, built for relaxed drives, coastal walks and the ancient Ggantija temples, with Victoria at its heart. Tiny Comino between the two islands is barely developed and best known for the electric-blue water of the Blue Lagoon, which is glorious early or late but overwhelmed at midday in peak summer. With short distances, ferries and buses linking it all, a single home base can cover cities, coast and islands. Renting an apartment or a Gozo farmhouse keeps you close to harbours, markets and local restaurants.

Vacation rentals in Malta: FAQ

Book vacation apartments and holiday homes safely with BookNoFees ↗
When is the best time to visit Malta?

Spring and autumn offer warm weather without the intense heat and crowds of high summer, and they are pleasant for exploring Valletta, Mdina and the coast. July and August are hot and busy, and popular spots like the Blue Lagoon fill up fast at midday. Winters are mild, quieter and good for sightseeing and walking.

How do I get around Malta and over to Gozo and Comino?

Malta has an extensive bus network, and the islands are small, so you can base yourself in one place and day-trip widely. A short car ferry connects Malta and Gozo, while boat trips run to Comino and the Blue Lagoon. Some visitors rent a car for Gozo's quieter roads, though buses and ferries cover most trips.

How can I enjoy the Blue Lagoon without the crowds?

The Blue Lagoon on Comino is at its best early in the morning or later in the afternoon, especially in July and August, when the middle of the day gets very crowded. Going outside peak hours, or visiting in shoulder season, gives you the bright turquoise water with far more space to enjoy it.

What should I not miss in Valletta and Mdina?

In Valletta, highlights include St John's Co-Cathedral with its Caravaggio, the Grandmaster's Palace and the harbour views from the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Mdina, the walled Silent City, is best experienced slowly, ideally in the evening once the day crowds have gone, when its quiet stone lanes are at their most atmospheric.

How does booking direct with BookNoFees work?

You can message the host before booking. For a booking request, Stripe first places a card hold for the full amount; the host has 48 hours to accept, and only then is the amount captured. Instant Book is charged immediately after Stripe confirms payment. Do not transfer the booking amount directly to the host. The displayed total already includes the 6.9% guest fee on the host price, covering payment processing, refund handling and payment risks.

Why book direct for a Malta trip?

BookNoFees deducts no commission from the amount set by the host. The displayed total includes a 6.9% guest fee on the host price, covering payment processing, refund handling and payment risks. Nothing is added at checkout.
